In Azerbaijan, three opposition activists detained on the eve of rally
Three days before a rally to be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, law enforcers detained Agil Magerramov, a member of the presidium for the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Ruslan Nasirli, the chairman for the Mejlis of the PFPA's youth committee, and Babek Gasanov, the head of the district PFPA's unit. This is reported by the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan.
The activists were detained on May 25, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by Ilham Gusein, a member of the PFPA's Supreme Mejlis.
According to him, Agil Magerramov (Magerram), a member of the PFPA's presidium, was detained in the afternoon when he left home, while Ruslan Nasirli, the chairman of the Mejlis for the PFPA's youth committee, was detained at 4:00 p.m. in Ganja, and in the evening on May 25, the activist was brought to Baku.
Ilham Gusein did not specify the circumstances for the detention of Babek Gasanov, the head of the PFPA's unite for the Narimanov District. There is no information about where the detained activists are being kept now.
Ilham Gusein associates the detentions with a festive rally of the PFPA, scheduled for May 28 in the village of Novkhany near Baku. The rally will be held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic, the PFPA's activist explained. "Every time on the eve of our rallies, activists of the PFPA are subjected to reprisals," Ilham Gusein said.
