Residents of Ingushetia treat Evkurov's renunciation as inefficient condemnation

The decision of the Muftiate on renunciation of Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the Ingush leader, from the Muslim community is not unique; such decisions had been taken as a sort of public reprimand. However, this measure is inefficient, the local residents who are interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" believe.

The Muftiate had accused Evkurov of oppressing the employees of the Republic's Spiritual Centre of Muslims and Imams.

The confrontation of Mr Evkurov with the Mufti of Ingushetia has lasted for many years. In March 2016, he announced the dissolution of the Muftiate.

The practice of renouncing a person from a village or teip (clan) has been practiced in Ingushetia to this day, said Magomed, a pensioner.

Some 60-80 years, the renunciation from a village or teip was treated as a terrible punishment, but now this decision has no such impact, said Muslim, a lawyer.

The renunciation of an official from the Muslim community has no impact, since it is unlikely that someone will refuse communicating with him, said Aslan, a local resident.
