South Ossetia: former Telecom Minister goes on hunger strike in SIZO

On July 13, Georgy Kabisov, the former South-Ossetian Telecom Minister, announced an endless hunger strike, saying he is in custody on far-fetched charges, his wife has stated.

Georgy Kabisov, a high-ranking official of the Foreign Intelligence Service of South Ossetia, was detained on November 7, 2017, on suspicion of abuse of office. Mirian Djioev, a resident of Tskhinvali, suspected of illegal entrepreneurship, was detained together with him.

Kabisov's case has to do with financial violations in the work of the Closed Joint-Stock Company (CJSC) "Ostelecom", a mobile operator, a law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot". On January 17, the Supreme Court of South Ossetia refused to release Kabisov although two former presidents of the republic and local MPs wanted to stand bail for him.

Zarina Kabisova, Georgy's wife, said that her husband handed over, with his advocate, a statement about a start of the hunger strike, and asked to post it on the Internet.

"For more than eight months, I have been under arrest on false accusations and a fabricated criminal case," reads the appeal published by Zarina Kabisova in the "Support Group of Kabisov Georgy Sergeevich" on the Facebook.
