Grozny residents report law enforcers' raids on the eve of city's anniversary

Armed law enforcers have inspected apartment buildings and private houses in Grozny, locals have reported. The police have explained the inspections by security measures in the context with celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the city.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that celebrations are scheduled for October 5.

The inspections were held on September 27 in the Leninsky District in private houses and apartment buildings, locals have stated.

“Yesterday (on September 27), we had passport checks conducted by the district policeman accompanied by several armed agents. They asked how many people lived in the house, whether there were no unregistered residents. They walked and checked the whole street," a resident of Grozny named Zara told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

“They (law enforcers) didn't enter apartments. They asked for passports, copied the data, asked if there were any strangers, and then went to check other apartments. Although they behaved calmly and friendly, such visits cause anxiety. The head of their group said that inspections had to do with the upcoming holidays," Isa, a resident of Grozny, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Residents of the Chechen capital have also reported strengthening of police posts in the city.
