Relatives report disappearance of detained Azerbaijani activist Nabi

The fate of the activist Djeikhun Nabi, who was detained on October 23 in Azerbaijan, remains unknown. Relatives and human rights defenders cannot establish his whereabouts. Advocates have now joined the search.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Djeikhun Nabi was detained on October 23 in his hometown of Shamkir, located 400 kilometres west of Baku.

Sardar Nabiev, the father of the activist, said that for more than two days he could not receive any information about the reasons for his son's detention, and his whereabouts.

According to Sardar Nabiev, he called the hotline "102" of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), but has not received any answer yet.

The activist's family entered into an agreement with the advocates Elchin Sadygov and Zibeida Sadygova.

"We began searching for Djeikhun Nabi. We have already appealed to a number of district courts and police departments in Baku, but we were told at these institutions that they had no information about this person," Elchin Sadygov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Centre for the Protection of Political Prisoners, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that activists, in order to draw public attention to the Nabi's case, have launched a campaign in social networks under the hashtag "Tell Djeikhun Nabi's custody place".
