Complaint of fines after clashes in Kabardino-Balkaria reaches SC
On October 31, the Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria began to consider a complaint filed by a student of the Kabardino-Balkarian State University (KBSU), who challenged the fines imposed on him after he had appeared on the place of the September riots. The student claims that he did not take part in the protest action.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 18, residents of the Balkarian village of Kendelen did not let participants of the procession organized in memory of the 310th anniversary of the Kanzhali battle to pass through the village and after that clashes took place. On September 19, clashes between activists and law enforcers occurred in the village of Zayukovo and in Baksan, and 120 people were detained.
On September 19, the KBSU student was detained near the village of Zayukovo. He pleaded not guilty and requested the Supreme Court to cancel the decision on the fines imposed on him.
