In Georgia, presidential campaign leads to politicization of military men

Salome Zurabishvili continues to receive threats. A group of veterans of the Georgian armed forces condemned the use of military men and veterans for political purposes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Salome Zurabishvili, an independent presidential candidate of Georgia, supported by the "Georgian Dream" Party, declared receiving threats from former military men related to the "opposition 'United National Movement' (UNM) Party.

The campaign against the election of Salome Zurabishvili as president is being held in social networks. It actively involves former military men and veterans of the armed forces. They accused Salome Zurabishvili of supporting anti-state interests and, in particular, noted that the statement about the "five-day war" in August 2008 was unacceptable.

Salome Zurabishvili reproached the government of Mikhail Saakashvili that in 2008, the Georgian authorities bombed their own people.

In social networks, Malkhaz Lagazidze, a refugee from South Ossetia, a participant of the war in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, claimed that he refused to vote for "traitor Salome Zurabishvili, who accused Georgia of starting the war."

Zurab Tiliani, a participant of the Georgian-Russian war in 2008, has stated that Salome Zurabishvili is "a danger to Georgian statehood."

On the air of the "Imedi" TV Channel, Dmitry Gabuniya, an advocate of Salome Zurabishvili, has reported that his client receives threats from a retired Georgian military man who is now fighting in Ukraine.
