A source reports blood feud killing in Ingushetia

A resident of the village of Yandare in the Nazran District was shot dead in his house. The victim was a former policeman who served his sentence for a murder, reported a source.

According to investigators, on November 25, the 34-year-old man was shot dead in the yard of his household.

The victim was a former policeman, and he was recently released from prison after he had served his sentence to seven years of imprisonment on the charge of murder. After the crime, he was dismissed from the police, the source reported. "According to the preliminary information, the former policeman could be killed for blood feud," the "Interfax" quotes a source as reporting.

The tradition of blood feud developed under the clan system to protect the honour and property of a clan in Northern Caucasus. It now acts as an actual social mechanism. According to the tradition, relatives of a murdered person must take revenge on the murderer or his relatives.
