At least eight persons continue hunger-striking in Azerbaijan

Activists Zafar Akhmedov, Rafig Bakhyshov and Fizuli Guseinov continue their hunger strike in the office of the "Musavat" Party. The journalist Khadija Ismayilova and activist Aigul Djafarova have stopped their hunger strike. At least five political prisoners continue their protest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that from January 7, Azerbaijani oppositionists are on a hunger strike under the slogan: "Freedom to Mekhman Guseinov and other political prisoners!" in the office of the "Musavat" Party. Besides, at least eight convicted activists declared a hunger strike by January 15 in solidarity with Guseinov.

"We demand to put an end to repressions. We demand to stop presenting new charges against those political prisoners, whose prison terms have expired. We demand to stop pressing political prisoners in jails," said Zafar Akhmedov.

On January 19, after her five days of hunger strike, Aigul Djafarova came to an opposition rally demanding to release all political prisoners. She looked pale and spoke in a weak voice.

On January 19, about 3000 people took part in the action, at which the demands to release the blogger Mekhman Guseinov and other political prisoners were voiced out.

Khadija Ismayilova has also announced the end of her hunger strike.

Shura Amiraslanova and Kyamala Ragimli, the mothers of political prisoners Giyas Ibragimov and Orkhan Bakhyshly, said that their sons continue their hunger strike.
