YeSU students demand Rector's resignation

During the today's protest action, students have called for an extraordinary meeting of the board of trustees of the Yerevan State University (known as YeSU) and for expression of distrust to Rector Aram Simonyan.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported about the protest action of YeSU students. On May 29, 2018, they called for the start of the strike to demand the resignation of Rector Aram Simonyan. The protestors complained about the problems at the university, including low quality of education, lack of academic freedom, lack of management transparency, and inappropriate waste of resources. On May 30, 2018, the student strike was terminated after the announcement of the Rector's hospitalization.

On May 29, the Rector met the protesters, but refused to make any concessions under pressure.

Today, students of the Yerevan State University have held a procession with the demand for resignation of YeSU Rector Aram Simonyan. According to the protestors, the new board of trustees of the YeSU ignored the students' demand for the Aram Simonyan's resignation and did not take into account the students' dissatisfaction regarding the university management, the "Sputnik-Armenia" reports.

About 20 people took part in the protest action.

The protesters said that "only the resignation of Aram Simonyan would solve the problems in the university."
