Armenian soldier dies on border with Azerbaijan

Today, soldier Gamlet Avakyan has died on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. He fell into a gorge, investigators report.

Regular soldier Gamlet Avakyan, a paramedic, born in 2000, died on duty, reported Artsrun Ovannisyan, the spokesman of the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD).

According to Artsrun Ovannisyan, the incident occurred in the north-eastern part of the Armenian border. "The death did not come as a result of a shot from the enemy's side," Artsrun Ovannisyan wrote on his Facebook page.

The Investigating Committee of Armenia clarified that the incident occurred during a medical tour. "On the way from one combat post to another, soldier Gamlet Avakyan slipped and fell into the gorge. The regular soldier died from his injuries," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the spokesman of the Armenian MoD.

Earlier, the "Caucasian Knot" has reported that rights defenders expressed their concern over the growth of non-combat losses among soldiers of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh in 2018. The rights defenders associated the trend with impunity of commanders and poor training of technical and medical service personnel.
