Defence tells about pressure on arrested resident of Dagestan

The arrest of Ramazan Alibiev, accused of storing firearms, has been appealed against at the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan. His defence has stated today that pressure is exerted on Alibiev to force him to admit his guilt and reject advocates.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Ramazan Alibiev told that law enforcers tortured him forcing to confess to the illegal possession of a pistol and ammunition. On March 12, the Khasavyurt City Court ruled to arrest Alibiev until April 10; then, the arrest was extended by another month.

On April 11, Alibiev's defence appealed against the above ruling of the city court; the complaint will be considered by the Dagestani SC, the advocate, Abdurakhman Abdullaev, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today, suggesting that most likely, the complaint will not be satisfied, since Alibiev has a criminal record.

Mr Abdullaev said that after he and his colleague Zagir Stambulov entered the case, their client was no longer tortured. "Ramazan said that the torture stopped, but they still put pressure on him. They demand him to confess that the pistol allegedly found on him belonged to him. They also want our client to reject our services. So far, he holds on," said Abdullaev, adding that supervisory bodies failed to react to complaints of torture.
