Armenia thanks Portugal for recognition of Armenian Genocide

The Portuguese Parliament has recognized the Armenian Genocide. The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed gratitude to Portuguese MPs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 24, the House of Representatives of the American State of Colorado adopted a resolution condemning the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey.

More than 20 countries have recognized the Armenian Genocide. Over one and a half million Armenians assassinated in Ottoman Turkey in 1915 have been canonized in Armenia. However, Turkey does not consider these events as genocide.

"Armenia highly appreciates the resolution adopted by the Portuguese Parliament in connection with the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey and is grateful for condolences to genocide victims," says the website of the Armenian MFA.

Let us add here that Turkish authorities have condemned the resolution. "Turkey rejects the resolution of the Portuguese Parliament on the events of 1915. Such an approach, politicizing the history and ignoring the international law, is categorically unacceptable," the "Eadaily.com" quotes the Turkish MFA as stating.
