About 300 volunteers help organizing ConIFA European Championship
Football teams began arriving in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) to take part in the ConIFA (Confederation of Independent Football Associations) European Championship. Volunteers from NKR and Armenia are involved in organizing the event.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the ConIFA European Championship be held in the NKR on June 1-9. Local authorities have invited NKR residents to join the "Hospitable Family" programme and accommodate foreign guests in their houses during the championship, as the hotels may not cope with a large number of arriving fans.
The ConIFA website reports that eight teams take part in the ConIFA-2019 Championship: Lapland, Abkhazia, Chameria, Padania, Szekey Territory, South Ossetia, Western Armenia and NKR.
Narine Agabalyan, NKR's Minister of Education, Sciences and Sports, has noted that about 300 young people from NKR and Armenia have already volunteered to work at the event; and applications continue coming.
"The great interest in our country gives its recognition de facto and will contribute thereto de jure. Besides, the championship will boost local football, tourism and economy," Ms Agabalyan has added.
"We saw a peaceful country with mountains and beautiful landscapes. I notice no aggression from people," said Chanda Daurn, a member of the Abkhaz team.
