Ingush activists tell their expectations of Evkurov's resignation

In case of resignation of Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the new head of Ingushetia should release all the arrested protesters and revise the border agreement with Chechnya, the activists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" are convinced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 24, Yunus-Bek Evkurov asked Vladimir Putin to dismiss him from the post of the head of Ingushetia.

Evkurov has been leading Ingushetia since 2008. On September 9, 2018, the People's Assembly of Ingushetia, by an overwhelming majority, re-elected him as the head of the republic.

Since the autumn of 2018, opponents of the border agreement with Chechnya, signed by Evkurov and Ramzan Kadyrov, have been demanding Evkurov's resignation.

Murad Daskiev, a deputy chairman of the Council of Ingush Teips (family clans), believes that Evkurov's resignation will be positive for the arrested activists. "The liberation of the arrested protest movement activists should be resolved by the new republic's leader in the first place. We still face many unresolved problems; one of the main of them being the revision of the agreement on land alienation. It's a complex issue; and we'd like those who head the republic took into account all the mistakes of the previous leadership," Murad Daskiev has expressed his desires.

Angela Matieva, an activist, has also expressed hope that Evkurov's resignation will tell positively on the fate of the arrested activists. "I think that the person who heads our republic will understand that the number one problem is the release of arrested activists within the legal field. The second step is to change the team and get rid of those who had affected, no less than Evkurov himself, the current situation," she said.
