Court leaves Dagestani journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev in custody

The Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan refused to transfer Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the newspaper "Chernovik" (Draft), to house arrest. The defence believes that the detention of Abdulmumin Gadjiev is not justified.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 18, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion department of the newspaper "Chernovik", was arrested in the case on financing of terrorism. Today, in front of the building of the Supreme Court of Dagestan, activists demanded to release Abdulmumin Gadjiev.

According to investigators, Abdulmumin Gadjiev transferred money to the accounts of the foundations led by preacher Israil Akhmednabiev (Abu Umar Sasitlinsky). Abu Umar Sasitlinsky himself stated that he had nothing in common with Abdulmumin Gadjiev and other defendants involved in the case.

At trial, Kemal Tambiev confessed that he had slandered the journalist under pressure. Due to that fact, supporters of Abdulmumin Gadjiev consider his case as fabricated.

Advocates believe that the court did not take into account the family situation of Abdulmumin Gadjiev and his characteristics.

"Someone is fighting against terrorism with weapons, while someone  with words and deeds. Abdulmumin Gadjiev is one of those people who fought against terrorism with persuasion, words, knowledge, and deeds," emphasized advocate Murad Magomedov.
