Makhachkala picketers demand to drop charges against Ashikovs and Abdurashidov

Relatives of Ziyavudin Ashikov, the acting head of the Kaspiysk police, his brother Raip Ashikov and Omar Abdurashidov came out to pickets in the capital of Dagestan, stating that the men are illegally prosecuted for alleged financing terrorism.

Raip Ashikov, a former head of the UVD (Interior Department) of Makhachkala, is under arrest since April 1, 2019, on suspicion of financing terrorism along with Omar Abdurashidov. Raip Ashikov said that his problems appeared after a conflict with a high-ranking official. His brother, Ziyavudin Ashikov, was also detained on April 14.

On May 15, advocates of the Ashikov brothers and Omar Abdurashidov demanded to transfer their clients' cases to investigating bodies of other regions, since they do not trust the Dagestani law enforcement structures.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer.
