On July 1-7, two persons fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of July 1-7, 2019, at least two people perished in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus; there was no information about the wounded ones. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.

The casualties include one alleged member of the armed underground and one law enforcer in Chechnya.

Attacks on law enforcers

On July 1, an attack on a post near the village of Bamut of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya was committed. The attacker approached a policeman sent to Chechnya to hold service from the Kemerovo Region of Russia, stabbed him and threw a grenade. When trying to escape, he was shot dead. The policeman died from received wounds. The "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, claimed responsibility for the attack. The attacker was identified as Zelimkhan Musaev, a 26-year-old native of Achkhoi-Martan. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Chechen Republic, he was a drug addict, married to a relative of the militants who had left for Syria.

Detentions

On July 2, it became known that law enforcers had released, after questioning, the residents of Chechnya, detained because of their contacts with Akhmed Barzaev, who was killed at his attack on policemen. According to a Chechen NGO activist, 11 Barzaev's acquaintances were detained.

On July 2, law enforcers detained three residents of the Urvan District of Kabardino-Balkaria. According to law enforcers, they, after having joined an international terrorist organization, made homemade bombs and wanted to blow them up in public places. During a search of the suspects, weapons and ammunition were found.

On July 5, law enforcers' raids were conducted near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala. One of the believers told about an attempt to detain him. After the believer phoned his familiar law enforcer, they returned his documents, saying that he should not go to the police station.
