Chechnya: law enforcers publicly reprimand detainees for drinking alcohol

The use of alcohol and psychotropic drugs became the reason for a "prophylactic talk" of law enforcers with the men detained in Chechnya. Local residents and Instagram users have treated the public warning of the detainees as excessive.

Rustam Aguev, the head of the Kurchaloi ROVD (District Interior Division), has conducted a "prophylactic talk" with the people brought there for using psychotropic drugs and being in a public place intoxicated by alcohol.

He reminded them that "such offenses" are unacceptable in the Chechen society, the "Grozny-Inform" News Agency reported on October 20.

A video with similar captions was posted on the page of the public "ChP/Chechnya" on the Instagram. The footage shows seven men of different ages standing with their heads bowed against the wall in the office of the ROVD head.

Local residents and Instagram users have treated this public condemnation of the detainees as excessive, and criticized law enforcers' actions. "If a person has drunk alcohol, it's his sin ... But no one has the right to insult these people," the user waching_oo7 wrote, in particular.

"Total ban and control give rise to lawlessness. Everyone chooses his own way and responds for it!" the user gai.gazan expressed his opinion.
