Silence of authorities provokes disputes about fate of Ramzan Kadyrov's nephew

A scandal around video records with the brutal actions of Islam Kadyrov did not get a resonance in the public institutions, noted residents of Chechnya and users of social networks. They fear that the verification of the video records made public will not lead to the criminal proceedings against the former mayor of Grozny.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 24, the "Grozny" TV Channel made public fragments of the video records in which Islam Kadyrov, then the mayor of Grozny, was threatening residents of the Chechen capital with reprisals and using an electric stunning device against a woman.

"After the TV report had been released, people expected there would be a serious trial," noted Roza, a member of an NGO.

"The authorities will reproach him for the lawlessness, and that may all end there," believes Salavdi, a resident of Grozny.

Islam Kadyrov is a nephew and a son-in-law of Ramzan Kadyrov. When in 2012, Islam Kadyrov headed the City Mayoralty of Grozny at the age of 25, he became the youngest city mayor in the history of Russia.

Let us remind you that blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov, well-known for criticizing the Chechen authorities, reported he had got video records with Islam Kadyrov from his source in early October. According to the blogger, the Chechen authorities made public the scandalous video records in order to get ahead of his posts and to avoid the need to respond to the criticism from the blogger.
