Doctors recommend transporting Ogtai Gyulyalyev to Turkey for treatment
Turkish doctors invited by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation have offered to transfer human rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev to an Istanbul clinic for medical treatment. However, they do not guarantee such a transfer will help the patient come out of a coma and recover.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 29, in Baku, Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the coordinator of the Committee against Repression and Torture, was hospitalized after a press conference at which he outlined a plan for a campaign against torture. A car driver hit Ogtai Gyulyalyev at a pedestrian crossing, reported a son of the human rights defender. Azerbaijani oppositionists and human rights defenders have suggested that Ogtai Gyulyalyev was intentionally hit by a car. The victim underwent surgery and stays in a coma.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation took over the treatment of human rights defender Ogtai Gyulyalyev, reported on November 5 the "Report" with reference to Firuza Gyulyalyeva, a spouse of the human rights defender.
Specialists from Turkey were invited by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to visit the patient in Baku.
The Turkish doctors who examined Ogtai Gyulyalyev recommended urgently transferring the human rights defender to Turkey for medical treatment, the "Turan" agency reports.
According to the Turkish experts, the victim stays in a "severe" condition, says Firuza Gyulyalyeva. "The Turkish doctors offered to transport Ogtai to Turkey. Meanwhile, they do not guarantee that the medical treatment will help him come out of a coma and recover. I agreed to transfer my husband for treatment," said the spouse of the human rights defender as quoted by Turan.
