Court releases supporter of Robert Kocharyan, Armenian ex-President

The Court of Appeal (CoA) has satisfied the advocate's complaint and released Sargis Ogandjanyan, a supporter of the second president of Armenia, accused of disrespect of the court. This was reported on the Facebook by Aram Vardevanyan, his advocate.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 28, Narek Mutafyan was detained on suspicion of disrespectfulness to Judge Anna Danibekyan, who had left Kocharyan under arrest. The second figurant in the case of contempt of the judge was Sargis Ogandjanyan.

On September 20, Judge Anna Danibekyan ruled to leave Robert Kocharyan in custody. Her decision provoked a protest action outside the courthouse. According to the court, Mutafyan was one of the people who pursued Danibekyan in the street on September 27, trying to insult the judge. However, Vage Eprikyan, his advocate, asserts that Mutafyan just came up to the judge and asked her a question.

Robert Kocharyan is accused of taking a bribe of three million US dollars, and of suppressing protests in Yerevan on March 1-2, 2008, during which ten people perished.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
