Kocharyan's supporters hold New Year protest action at SIZO

Dozens of activists with posters in support of Robert Kocharyan gathered at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), where the second president of Armenia is kept, and congratulated him and Armen Tavadyan, the owner of 5TV Channel on the New Year.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 20, 2019, the court refused to satisfy the motion of Kocharyan's defence demanding to release him on bail.

Robert Kocharyan is accused of taking a bribe of three million US dollars, and of suppressing protests in Yerevan on March 1-2, 2008, during which ten people perished.

On January 1, Kocharyan's supporters gathered at the SIZO of the National Security Service (NSS) with posters reading: "Congratulations, the victorious president!" and "2020 is the year of freedom of speech". They chanted: "Congratulations!, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports.

The video posted in the Facebook page of the commission for Kocharyan's release shows dozens of activists with posters and banners; they open champagne bottles.

Congratulations were addressed not only to Kocharyan, but also to Armen Tavadyan, the owner of the 5TV Channel, says the caption to the video (as translated by the "Caucasian Knot").
