President of Abkhazia refuses to resign
Raul Khadjimba, the President of Abkhazia, has refused to voluntarily leave his post; but he is ready to meet representatives of the bloc of oppositional forces and hold talks, Dmitry Dbar, an MP of the People's Assembly. Aslan Bzhaniya has already arrived in Sukhumi.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 9, hundreds of protesters broke into the building of the presidential administration, demanding Khadjimba's resignation. Authorities have treated the protest as an attempt of a putsch. The opposition demanded early presidential election in Abkhazia. Aslan Bzhaniya, the opposition leader has flown to Sukhumi. Raul Khadjimba himself called on citizens to "remain calm and not succumb to provocations."
Raul Khadjimba believes that his resignation will destabilize the situation in the country; and now he is working towards defusing the tense political situation in the republic, Alkhas Djindjoliya, another MP, has stated.
According to his story, the parliament has adopted a draft resolution proposing the early resignation of the republic's president.
