KChR Mufti urges believers not to attend mosques during Ramadan

Because of the threat of coronavirus spread, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of the Karachay-Cherkessian Republic (KChR) has suspended collective prayers in mosques. Ismail Berdiev, the Mufti, has urged his fellow countrymen to pray at home during the fasting month of Ramadan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that following the recommendation of the Russia's SAM, on March 24, Kabardino-Balkaria, Adygea and the Krasnodar Territory closed their mosques because of the pandemic.

In 2020, the start of the month of Ramadan falls on April 24, and the last day thereof – on May 23. On May 24, Muslims will celebrate Uraza Bayram, the "Islam-today" reports.

Ismail Berdiev, the Mufti and the head of the SAM of the KChR, has called on believers to pray at home during the holy month of Ramadan and to observe the self-isolation regime.

The Mufti has stressed the importance of fasting during Ramadan and urged believers to pay more attention to the spiritual beginning at this time: to prayers, reading the Koran, and doing good deeds, says the website of the head and government of the KChR.

Earlier, the Muftiates of Adygea, Dagestan, Chechnya, North Ossetia and Kabardino-Balkaria stated that because of the coronavirus, the order of visiting mosques could be changed during Ramadan.
