Chief Physician of Gudermes hospital replaced after doctors' protest

The Gudermes Central District Hospital (CDH), whose employees have protested against their working conditions, is now headed by Shahid Akhmadov, a former Chechen Minister of Public Health.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14, the "Novaya Gazeta" newspaper published a translation of audio and video messages recorded by medics of the Gudermes CDH, who complained about the absence of protective means, which they had to buy for their own money.

On May 14, Shakhid Akhmadov was appointed to the post of Chief Physician of the Gudermes CDH, who until recently held the post of Chechen Vice-Premier, a source from the Chechen Ministry of Public Health told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Shakhid Akhmadov is a man with extensive experience; some time ago he was the chief physician of the Gudermes CDH, and then headed our Ministry of Public Health," the source has explained.

According to the source, the situation at the Gudermes CDH "has generally normalized."
