Armenian MPH reports on decrease of coronavirus infection rate

For already several days in a row, the daily registered coronavirus infection cases is lower than predicted, said Arsen Torosyan, the head of the Ministry of Public Health (MPH) of Armenia. According to his story, during the epidemic, about 2% of the country's population has been tested.

By June 14, 2020, Armenia, which is behind Azerbaijan and Georgia in terms of population, was in the lead by the number of infected patients. According to the data of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention of the Armenian MPH, the number of those infected with coronavirus reached 18,033 persons; 401 people died. In Armenia, the state of emergency has been extended until July 13.

As of June 12, a total of 55,849 people were tested for coronavirus in Armenia, Minister Torosyan has stated, adding on the Facebook that by June 14 the number of those infected should have exceeded 20,000, but as of June 17, the number was a little more than 18,000.

"The reason for the slowdown in the epidemic spread can be solely in the observance by people of the safety rules – the medical mask regime, the social distance and frequent hand disinfection," Mr Torosyan has written.

Analysts have also noted a slowdown in the epidemic spread in Armenia. In their opinion, this is due to the introduction of the mask-wearing regime.
