Amid residents' complaints, Chechen authorities announce quarantine weakening

After June 20, Chechnya plans to transit to the third stage of lifting restrictions introduced due to the coronavirus epidemic. Locals hope for the ease of the mask regime in hot weather.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since May 6, in Chechnya, they fine people for absence of medical masks. On June 1, the republic's authorities allowed walking around the house and going in for sports outdoors.

By June 18, a total of 1543 coronavirus infected persons were revealed in Chechnya; 19 people died. The republic has the lowest incidence among the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD).

"On June 20 or 21, the republic will cancel the quarantine almost completely," the operative headquarters for combating coronavirus has informed.

Chechnya has "all the medicines" and specialists who "know how to treat this disease," Ramzan Kadyrov has assured.

"It's hot outside ... and they demand from us to wear masks. A bus wouldn't stop if the driver sees that you are without a mask. For three months, they have kept everyone under lock, and they are still protracting the lifting of these restrictions ... I already have my nerves at the limit," Luiza, a Grozny resident, has stated.

Local residents have also said that doctors offer patients with weak infection symptoms to be treated at home.

Not all residents of Chechnya with SARS symptoms seek medical care, because of fear of quarantine for their relatives, said Aslan, a local resident.
