Kirovaul villagers vote to rename it in honour of Nurmagomedov
On July 8, residents of the village of Kirovaul held a gathering, at which they supported the idea of renaming the village in honour of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, a freestyle wrestling coach, died on July 3. After being infected with COVID-19, he was in a coma at a Moscow clinic.
Ilyas Khaziev, the head of the village, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he had received calls with a proposal to rename the village of Kirovaul in honour of the country's merited coach Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov not only from local residents, but also from Dagestanis who live outside the republic.
Rashid Gairbekov, the head of the board of elders of Kirovaul, believes not only the village should be named after Nurmagomedov, but also major streets in Makhachkala, Kizilyurt and in the Tsumada District, where the famous coach was born. "Today, we gathered in our small Jamaat and discussed this issue. Everyone stated that this is a good thing and it is imperative to bring it to the end. No one spoke out against it," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Mr Gairbekov has stated that Nurmagomedov had glorified Dagestan not only throughout Russia but all over the world either. "This is a man known to the whole world. He not only trained champions but also helped his fellow countrymen. He did a lot for the village. And the fact that his son Khabib became a champion is also largely due to Abdulmanap," the head of the board of elders has concluded.
