Raip Ashikov claims compensation for infected with coronavirus at SIZO

Raip Ashikov, a former head of Makhachkala police, accused of financing terrorism, went to court to demand compensation for the inhuman custody conditions. According to his story, when at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), he was infected with COVID-19 and failed to receive any treatment for more than 40 days.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Raip Ashikov has been in custody since 2019.

Raip Ashikov claims to collect 500,000 roubles from the Federal Penitentiary Service, said his advocate, Sapiyat Magomedova, as quoted by the "Kavkaz.Realii".

In the lawsuit, Ashikov pointed out that the custody conditions at Makhachkala SIZO-1 are "inhuman and degrading human dignity."

According to the lawsuit, on April 25, Ashikov, after his COVID-19 was confirmed, was transferred to a separate cell, in which, according to his story, the ventilation opening was covered with a blanket. He claims that he was deprived of fresh air, walks, and the opportunity to see his advocates.

"Twice in 42 days, they checked my body temperature through the cell feeding hole, without visiting the patient in the cell. One of the doctors was spraying a disinfectant around himself. At my request to give me this means for disinfecting the door handles, a toilet and a sink, he replied that he has no right to," says Ashikov's lawsuit, excerpts from which are presented by the "Advocate's Street" project.
