Instagram users treat dress code demand as dangerous for Dagestani tourism industry
Tourists are ready to observe the dress code introduced for them in the Kazbekovsky District of Dagestan, as follows from the video posted on the "Mash" Telegram channel. Commentators to the video have criticized the demands put forward to tourists. Some have stated that the dress code could scare away tourists and could affect local residents' incomes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in July, the Muftiate of Dagestan, referring to complaints from local residents, called on the guests of the republic to honour local traditions with their behaviour and appearance. However, residents of Dagestan and social network users have pointed out that the clergy cannot dictate to guests of the region how to dress.
The Muftiate should not have urged tourists to observe the rules of decency in clothes, since they are sympathetic to Muslim traditions; and obsessive recommendations of the clergy can scare tourists away, the guests of Makhachkala have stated.
The tourists interviewed by the "Mash" channel noted that they respect the traditions of the place where they came to rest; therefore, they will follow the dress code rules.
Local residents have divided in their opinions: some supported the innovation; others said that they do not care what tourists wear.
Commentators to the video about the dress code in Dagestan on the Instagram have criticized the demands put forward to tourists. Some of them have stated that Dagestanis, first of all, should themselves observe the customs both in their homeland and abroad.
