Social networks criticize contest in honour of Aimani Kadyrova

Chechnya is holding a contest among schoolchildren for the best video clip dedicated to Aimani Kadyrova, Ramzan Kadyrov's mother. Residents of Chechnya treat the contest as an attempt to plant the cult of the Kadyrov family.

The contest is organized by the Grozny administration and the city education department, a source from the Mayoralty of Grozny told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on August 2.

The residents of Chechnya interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" criticized the organizers of the contest.

"It was not customary for our ancestors to grovel in front of anyone; but today they have made it a norm. Moreover, today, the adulation, toadying and open grovelling are revered almost as a virtue, a manifestation of wisdom and the ability to live. It's terrible to imagine what we can come to in one or two generations with this approach. The elementary human concepts, such as honour, dignity, self-respect and so on are simply etched out of us," Aslambek has noted.

Lechi has called what is happening as the imposition of the cult of the Kadyrov family into the Chechen society.

"All these contests of poetry, video clips, stories about the Kadyrov, the father, the son, and now the mother too, this is the implantation of this family's cult in our environment, especially among the youth one. Never before, whether during the tsarist era, under the communist regime or before the early 2000s, it was impossible even to imagine such a thing. Today, it has become a norm; and it's really scaring," Lechi believes.
