Chechen policemen publicly rebuke young people in Kurchaloi

Law enforcers have gathered offenders in the building of the Kurchaloi ROVD (District Interior Division) and recorded a "prophylactic" conversation with them on video. Such videos serve as reports to the authorities, local residents have noted.

In the video posted on the Instagram, the ROVD boss is scolding about 30 young men. The reasons why they had been gathered there are not specified.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the Kurchaloi ROVD that the young men "had committed various offences and could take a wrong path."

Residents of Chechnya believe that such videos are made for currying favour before bosses. "They say, you see, we reveal, suppress and instruct young people on the right path. Bosses appreciate such zeal," Lechi said.

"They gathered guys in one place, but no one is wearing a medical mask, while the strictest mask regime is in force and policemen are punishing violators. We have double standards in force," said Maret, a Chechen woman.

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
