Chechen resident suspected of involvement in IS*

A native of Urus-Martan left for Syria, where he joined the ranks of a banned terrorist organization and took part in combat actions, investigators claim.

A 21-year-old resident of Chechnya, suspected of participating in combat actions as a member of the "Islamic State"*, was detained during a special operation.

"During operational activities, fighters of the law enforcement bodies detained Umar Agaev, a native of the city of Urus-Martan, born in 1991. It was revealed that in 2014, he entered Syria through a third country. In Syria, being a member a terrorist grouping of the banned IS*, the suspect was fighting against the government forces of the country," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya.

During the first six months of this year, in Chechnya, 31 criminal cases were instituted against natives of the republic who left for Syria to take part in combat actions on the side of the militants, an official from the regional Prosecutor's Office informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "In total, 845 natives of our republic, who left for Syria since the beginning of the armed conflict on the territory of this country, have been put on the international wanted list," the prosecutor said.
