Azerbaijan has stopped Turkish TV Channel

Today, as from 9 a.m. (local time), broadcasting of the Turkish TV Company "Channel D" has been suspended in the territory of Azerbaijan.

We mark here that the decision to stop this TV Channel was made at the sitting of the National Television and Radio Board (NTRB) on December 28, 2006.

Also under decision of the NTRB, as from July 1, 2007, Russian TV Channels ORT and RTR, and the Turkish "Samanyolu" will be stopped in the territory of Azerbaijan. Broadcasting of the Turkish "TRT" will not be stopped at all. Giving his comments to this decision of the NTRB, Mr. Maggeramli has noted that it has no political context, but directed exclusively towards bringing the Azerbaijani TV to international standards, elimination of penetration of foreign TV channels into the domestic advertising market and promotion of Azerbaijani TV channels.
