Catholicos Garegin II urges Nikol Pashinyan to resign

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan must resign in order to prevent clashes and avoid shocks and tragic consequences after Nagorno-Karabakh had lost most of its territory, Catholicos Garegin II says.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the peace agreement with Azerbaijan on November 10, the opposition raised the issue of his resignation, but consideration of the initiative by the parliament failed due to the lack of a quorum.

Catholicos Garegin II called on Nikol Pashinyan to resign. "Based on the growing public tension in the country, serious external and internal challenges, and the decrease in public confidence in the Prime Minister, I fatherly called him on to take responsibility and resign as Prime Minister in order to prevent shocks, possible clashes, and tragic consequences," stated Garegin II as quoted by the RIA "Novosti" today.

"The interest of the people of Armenia should prevail over personal ambitions, and therefore, it is important to maintain unity and solidarity. It is necessary to refrain from steps leading to a polarization of the society, split, and intolerance," said Garegin II.
