Thirteen Armenian militaries arrested in absentia for war crimes

A court in Baku has arrested in absentia 13 Armenian military servicemen accused of war crimes committed in Azerbaijan.

During the autumn escalation of the conflict, Armenian and Azerbaijani soldiers used to decapitate prisoners of war (POWs) and mocked the enemies' dead bodies, experts of the Amnesty International (AI) have stated.

On November 14, it became known that two junior warrant officers of the Azerbaijani Army has been arrested on charges of mocking the militaries' bodies; and two soldiers were accused of desecrating graves.

There are 14 defendants in the case, the "Report.az" has informed.

The public association "Development of Society and Civil Relations" has prepared a report on facts of torture of Azerbaijani POWs, the "Trend" News Agency reports. According to the report, the captured Azerbaijani citizens were subjected to "torture, ill-treatment and humiliation."

Let us remind you that on November 21, the Azerbaijani General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) called most of the videos with "the insulting actions of Azerbaijani militaries against the bodies of dead Armenian militaries" and "inappropriate treatment of POWs" to be fake. In his turn, Arman Tatoyan, the Armenian Ombudsperson, insists on the authenticity of most of the videos.
