Shootout with Byutukaev becomes fourth armed incident in Chechnya within 2 months

A special operation in the village of Katar-Yurt was preceded by two attacks on policemen in Chechnya and the killing of a suspected militant in the Achkhoi-Martan District.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the leader of Chechnya announced that six suspected militants, including Aslan Byutukaev, the suspected leader of the militant grouping, were killed during the special operation conducted on the outskirts of the Katar-Yurt village. The National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reported the updated information that five militants were killed.

On December 28, 2020, police inspectors were attacked at an intersection of the roads in Grozny. One of the policemen was killed, and the other was severely wounded. Both attackers, the Timurziev brothers, natives of Ingushetia, were also killed. The "Islamic State" (IS, a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by the court, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") claimed the responsibility for the attack on the police inspectors in Grozny.

On December 17, policemen shot and killed two persons at a checkpoint of the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) in Kurchaloi. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the police inspectors stopped a car to check IDs of a driver and passengers and were attacked. The attackers threw an explosive device at the law enforcers and opened fire at them. The policemen were not wounded.

The above incident was preceded by a special operation conducted in the Achkhoi-Martan District on December 16. Ramzan Kadyrov reported about the killing of suspected militant Kazbek Baidulaev. Meanwhile, his name was already mentioned among the suspects killed after one of the earlier special operations in the region. The statement called into question the official information concerning the identification of the killed suspects.
