Opposition organizes a car rally in support of Nika Meliya

Participants of a protest action drove to the place of detention of opposition leader Nika Meliya in Tbilisi. For the second day, the Court of Appeal does not respond to a complaint lodged in connection with the decision on the Nika Meliya's arrest, an advocate of the opposition leader emphasizes.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 23, in Tbilisi, the police carried out a special operation to detain Nika Meliya, the leader of the opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party. Together with him, other 21 activists were detained, and they were released later.

The supporters of Nika Meliya organized a motor rally, and their convoy of cars drove out from Republic Square towards the prison in Rustavi, where Nika Meliya was placed. Zaal Udumashvili, one of the leaders of the "United National Movement" Party, believes that Nika Meliya will soon be released.

Tomorrow, on February 25, the 72-hour time limit will expire, during which the Court of Appeal must respond to the complaint, and till present, no response has been received, notes Dmitry Sadzaglishvili, an advocate of Nika Meliya.

"We just gave the government a chance to take a reasonable step and get out of this impasse. However, after the police special operation, these chances have diminished even more," said the advocate as quoted in the today's report on the website of the Georgia's First TV Channel.
