Colleagues of chief of Armenian General Headquarters announce a rally in his support

Former Armenian military personnel plan to hold on March 6 a rally against the resignation of Onik Gasparyan, the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces. The military activists call on veterans to come to the rally.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 25, the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces called on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign. Nikol Pashinyan treated the above call as an attempt at a coup d'etat and drew up a decree on the dismissal of Onik Gasparyan, the chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces. However, Armenian President Sakisyan (Sargsyan) twice refused to sign the decree on the Onik Gasparyan's dismissal. The decree comes into force today regardless of the Armenian president's decision.

The former Armenian military personnel scheduled a rally in support of their commander Onik Gasparyan. The rally is to be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 6, in front of the building of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in Yerevan, the "News.am" reported.

"Dear comrades-in-arms, former servicemen of the military unit No. 51191 of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia, we invite everyone to come to a rally in support of our commander Onik Gasparyan and the Armenian Army. The action will take place at 1:00 p.m. on March 6 at the entrance to the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia," wrote former military man Vaagn Shushanyan on his Facebook page as translated from the Armenian language by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

It should be noted that Tiran Khachatryan, the deputy chief of the General Headquarters of the Armenia's Armed Forces, was dismissed on February 24 after he had called "ridiculous" the Nikol Pashinyan's statement about the alleged combat-inefficiency of the Iskander missile systems purchased from Russia. Today, Tiran Khachatryan has appealed to court with the request to reconsider the Armenian president's decision and reinstate him in office.
