Pashinyan reports partial withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from border region

Some of the 250 Azerbaijani soldiers remain in Armenia, and the crisis has not been overcome, announces Nikol Pashinyan, the acting Prime Minister of Armenia. He called on Baku to invite Russia to participate in the border demarcation process.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 12, the Azerbaijani military personnel advanced to the Black Lake region. Armenia considered the above march an invasion into the Syunik Region. Baku claims that border guards only changed their location. On May 14, Armenia requested military assistance from its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). According to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev, no border conflict takes place, but the Azerbaijani military personnel are engaged in demarcation of the border in the region and Yerevan’s appeal to the CSTO has no grounds.

The Azerbaijani armed forces have partially left Armenia, but the situation remains tense, Nikol Pashinyan says. According to him, the negotiations are underway, and Armenia insists that the Azerbaijani military personnel completely abandon the positions they occupied in May.

The acting Prime Minister of Armenia has also said that the process of border demarcation should take place in a trilateral format, that is, with the participation of Russia.

Let us remind you that French President Emmanuel Macron called on Azerbaijan to withdraw its troops from the border region of Armenia and expressed his solidarity to the Armenian people.
