Azerbaijani political analysts predict peaceful settlement of Syunik conflict

The rhetoric around the situation in the Syunik Region of Armenia will be followed by agreements, since the conflict escalation is out of the plans of either Yerevan or Baku, political analysts believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 14, Armenia applied for military help from its allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in connection with the alleged penetration of Azerbaijani militaries into the country. In his turn, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev has stated that his country is clarifying the border with the Syunik Region, and there is no conflict there.

In recent days, many statements have been made calling for de-escalation - from the US, EU and Russia, said Mekhman Aliev, the director of the "Turan" News Agency. However, these statements "fail to flow into actions." Meanwhile, Russia suggests being a mediator in border delimitation.

Soon, everyone will come down and agree, said Zardusht Alizade, a political analyst. In his opinion, "Armenia has no resources, while Azerbaijan and Russia have no intentions."

In the future, the US position may lead to a big confrontation, but so far the situation is more beneficial for Azerbaijan, said Rasim Agaev, a political analyst. He also believes that the NATO will not interfere in the settlement of the conflict in Southern Caucasus.
