Hundreds of Armenian activists demand not to sign agreement with Azerbaijan
Participants of the action held near the building of the Armenian Government have opposed the signing of an agreement with Azerbaijan announced by Nikol Pashinyan, the Premier. The police counted 800 protesters.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Pashinyan stated that he was going to sign an agreement with Azerbaijan, but did not disclose the content of the document. His statement was made amid the border conflict with Azerbaijan. Armenian authorities claim that in May, hundreds of Azerbaijani soldiers penetrated the Syunik and Gegarkunik Regions of Armenia.
Troops and special fighter were brought to the government building during the action. The protesters accused law enforcers of protecting the traitors; and this angered the law enforcers.
Pashinyan has no right to sign an agreement that infringes upon the interests of the Armenian state, said Grair Kostanyan, an activist of the "Aik" civil initiative. He criticized the oppositional forces, which, in his opinion, should have headed the protest movement.
The border demarcation is impossible without resolving the conflict with Azerbaijan, Armen Ashotyan, Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party, who took part in the action, has stated.
