Azerbaijan returns lost soldier to Armenia

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Defence (MoD) has handed the soldier detained at the border over to the Armenian party; it happened after an additional investigation revealed that he had lost his way, the MoD has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 8, the Azerbaijani MoD informed about the capture of an Armenian saboteur at the border. The Armenian MoD stated that the captured contract soldier Arthur Kartanyan had simply lost his way.

The Azerbaijani party has returned the detained contract soldier to Armenia. "As a result of an additional investigation, it turned out that Arthur Kartanyan, a serviceman of the Armenian Armed Forces, entered the territory of Azerbaijan not for the purpose of committing a provocation. It was found that he had lost his way and occasionally crossed the Azerbaijani border," the MoD has stated in a message sent to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent late in the evening on June 8.

The MoD has explained that suspicions that he was a saboteur arose as a result of the fact that during the initial interrogations he behaved suspiciously and gave inaccurate answers.
