Kocharyan’s supporters detained at a protest action in Yerevan
In Yerevan, a protest action took place against the Nikol Pashinyan’s participation in the parliamentary elections. Several dozen supporters of former President Robert Kocharyan were taken to a police station after clashes with law enforcers in front of the Armenian government building.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that early elections to the National Assembly of Armenia are scheduled for June 20, and the pre-election campaign was launched on June 7.
Today, activists of the youth wing of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun”, which is a part of the “Armenia” pre-election bloc led by former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, have come to take part in a protest action held in Yerevan in front of the government building. The protestors accused acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan of surrendering Nagorno-Karabakh, the “News.am” reports today.
Law enforcers tried to detain several participants of the action, but other protesters attempted to free them from the police. After that, clashes broke out between the protesters and the police. As a result, the police began to more actively detain the protestors, and several dozen activists were brought to the police station, the agency “News-Armenia” reports today.
The protesters claimed that the first detentions were carried out by the police without reasons. “We wanted to highlight all the acts of betrayal committed by Nikol Pashinyan during the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. What happened later is absurd. We protested peacefully, but the police began to detain our guys, our comrades. Those guys fought for their homeland during the war,” said activist Christina Vardanyan as quoted today by the TASS.
