Akhmed Pogorov left in custody for three months more

The court in Essentuki has extended the detention term of Akhmed Pogorov, a co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, for other three months, despite the arguments of the defence about his poor health and his father's old age.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 26, Akhmed Pogorov, a former head of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and now a co-chairman of the World Congress of the Ingush People, was detained and arrested. In late May, Pogorov was transferred under house arrest and was soon hospitalized, but the police took him out of the hospital and brought him to Yessentuki in a reanimation car. The law enforcers explained their actions by the need for investigative actions. On May 26, the Essentuki City Court ruled to place Akhmed Pogorov for two months into the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of the city of Nalchik.

On June 22, the Essentuki City Court held a session to extend Akhmed Pogorov's custody term. Despite the lack of proofs that Pogorov was seen committing any unlawful acts against state officials, the court ignored the defence's petition to change his freedom restraint measure to house arrest or to recognizance not to leave and extended his custody term for other three months, Magomed Gagiev, Pogorov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
