The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 23, the delegates of the World Congress of Chechen Nations adopted a resolution calling on Ramzan Kadyrov to nominate him for running, at the next election, for the head of the region. This was also supported by Vladimir Putin.

On June 26, Grozny hosted the 36th conference of the Chechen regional branch of the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party, at which two candidates for the post of the head of Chechnya were considered. The rival to Kadyrov, who is not only the incumbent head of the region, but also a member of the Supreme Council of the Party, was Magomed Selimkhanov, a Russian State Duma MP. All the 176 delegates of the conference having the right to vote cast their ballots for Kadyrov.
