Armenia accuses Azerbaijan of a shelling attack at border

An Armenian soldier and two Azerbaijani soldiers were wounded as a result of a shootout at the border in the Gegarkunik District, the spokesperson for the Armenian General Headquarters reported. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Azerbaijan denied the information about the incident.

Today, at a press conference, Colonel Samvel Asatryan, the chief of the Information Department of the General Staff of the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Armenia, has reported that the incident took place near the village of Verin Shorzha in the Gegarkunik District of Armenia. “The shootout was provoked by the armed forces of Azerbaijan,” Samvel Asatryan emphasized.

The Colonel has also added that from the Armenian side, one Armenian soldier was slightly wounded. “According to our information, there are two wounded from the Azerbaijani side,” Samvel Asatryan said.

In response to the information about the incident at the border disseminated by the Armenian side, the Azerbaijani MoD stated that units of the Azerbaijani army did not open fire.

“There are no wounded among the personnel of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. If there are casualties or wounded in the ranks of the Armenian army, that could happen only as a result of an internal incident,” stated the spokesperson for the Azerbaijani MoD as quoted by the “Trend”.
