Thirteen Armenian soldiers sentenced to six years in colony in Azerbaijan

The verdict to the last group of Armenian soldiers detained in December 2020 in the vicinity of Gadrut was passed on July 23 by the Baku Court of Grave Crimes. Thirteen soldiers were found guilty of illegal border crossing and arms trafficking.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 13, 2020, already after the last autumn aggravation of the Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani militaries captured about 60 Armenian citizens in the vicinity of Gadrut. Some of them were then released, and 40 people were charged with terrorism.

On July 3, a court in Baku considered the case of 14 captured persons and acquitted most of them on grave charges, leaving the charge of illegal border crossing. Two of them were sentenced to four years of imprisonment, and other 12 – to six months each, which they have already spent in custody.

On July 23, the Baku Court of Grave Crimes finished the trial of the last group of 13 Armenian soldiers.

In his final word, the prosecutor asked to drop the charges against the defendants under articles on terrorism, the creation of armed formations and attacks as members of these formations on institutions. The court excluded these articles.

The Armenian militaries were found guilty of illegal border crossing and arms trafficking. The court has sentenced each of them to six years in a general security. After serving their terms, the convicts will be expelled from Azerbaijan.
