Armenian MoD reports new shootout on Azerbaijani border
Armenian militaries were shelled from the Azerbaijani side in Gegarkunik and Ararat Regions and opened fire back, the Armenian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has stated. Because of the shelling in the Karabakh conflict zone, workers of the Sotk mine were evacuated.
Earlier this morning, and also in the evening on July 25, Azerbaijan accused Armenia of firing sniper rifles, submachine guns and grenade launchers at the positions of Azerbaijani militaries stationed in the Kelbadjar (the Armenian name is Karvachar) District, which came under Azerbaijan's control in the fall of 2020. Armenia has denied accusations of night-time shelling.
Azerbaijani militaries have shelled Armenian positions located on the border in Gegarkunik, the "Caucasian Knot" was told at the press service of the Armenian MoD. There were no victims among servicemen; Armenian militaries "by response actions suppressed the fire" delivered from the Azerbaijani side.
Another incident has been fixed today in Eraskh, Ararat Region, near the border with the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic (NAR).
Shooting was heard at night also on the border of the Gegarkunik Region of Armenia with the Kelbadjar District of Azerbaijan, not far from the Sotk gold deposit, an employee of the "GeoProMining Gold" Company said.
According to his story, no one was hurt. About 150 people were evacuated, the "Sputnik Armenia" reports.
After the 2020 war, a part of the Sotk mine remained in the Gegarkunik Region, while the other one, located in Nagorno-Karabakh, now belongs to the Kelbadjar District.
